I’ve decided to start posting on the MJR a little more regularly now that my site-redesign is becoming a major priority to me again. Also, I’ve invited several of my co-workers to read my old manifestoes and short-stories, so I figure if I don’t start paying attention to this site, I’ll seem like a bad host. Can’t have that.
So, I suppose a nice big life update is in order. While nothing truly amazing has happened this year beyond it simply not sucking, it has indeed been a busy one. A new apartment, Senie on her last official year of Nursing Studies, and me deciding that my long love/hate relationship with “working” needs to change into a more active role of interest. Not out of any kind of necessity, but I find myself actually getting interested in what my career might be able to turn into in a year or three.
Writing is going slow, but a number of side projects keep me busy. I have a number of ideas, but it seems fleshing them out is harder now that I’m forcing myself to avoid the common traps of overused situations and typecast, 1 dimensional characters. While this, I realize, makes for a better story, I still do miss the old days of 100+ pages in a month, every month without fail.
Vacations are getting lined up for this summer. We’ll be going down to Philly to visit the Folks. Got a good deal on airline tickets (read: They only raped one of my credit cards instead of 2….) and in general, I’m looking forward to having the time off over my birthday. I’ve made sure to arrange for some time off before and after the actual traveling, as I hate having a vacation that is 99% travel. So, that’s summer.
Beyond all that, I think this year is still on the path to being above average. What will make it spectacular, I’m not certain. But I’ve resigned myself to this year being mostly just keeping everything up in the air, juggler style. Once Senie’s working and saving people’s lives and delivering babies and giving ER a bad name, we’ll see if there can be more fun.
